Photo Blogging Challenge (February 2015): Winter

February 28, 2015

(Note: There is no Snapshot Saturday this week because it falls on the final day of the month, so the day for the Photo Blogging Challenge. Snapshot Saturday will return next week!)

OK, I wish I hadn’t had all the winter things I did this month.

Turns out, in our area (and many others), February was the coldest month … ever. Can you imagine? We had 20+ days where the temperatures were in like single digits or something like that.

Brrrr!

Oh yeah — and we had a ton of snow.

Mix the two together and I am to the point where moving somewhere warm would be great. In fact, hook me up with a winning lotto ticket and I’ll be somewhere in the Bahamas during every winter going forward.

Until then … it’s time for this month’s challenge. Winter was the theme and here’s my five.

1. Winter fog

I was heading to work one day this month and I drove past this bridge — like I do three days a week. But as I looked over on this particular morning, I saw that fog and everything else and knew I needed to stop and snap a few photos.

Hamden Covered Bridge.

2. First snow

I got my nephew/godson Cameron his first pair of LL Bean boots in the hopes of grabbing some snow shots. Turns out his first time out in the snow wasn’t so fun. This is shortly after he got some snow on his face. He wasn’t pleased. Both his parents gave the OK on using this photo, though I actually struggled with it. But, within moments, he was fine (snow wiped off) and you could see he didn’t enjoy when he got put on the ground. Maybe the boots were too heavy. But either way, hopefully he’ll get better as he gets older with the snow!

Poor Cam.

Poor Cam.

3. Courthouse Square

The Courthouse Square in my town is quite picturesque and historic. I liked the look of this image after I took it.

Winter wonderland.

4. Happier

Cameron was OK outside with the snow as long as he wasn’t down on the ground. He seems pretty interested in watching is mother blow out a handful of snow.

Snow!

Snow!

 5. Snow blowin’

If you live anywhere that has been hit by the white stuff, you’ve probably used a snow blower a whole heap. Here’s my brother clearing some of the snow on the side of his house.

Clearing snow.

That’s my five and now it’s your turn!

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below. And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!). Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too!

Also, don’t forget to get back here tomorrow, March 1, to see the theme for March! It’s our two-year anniversary month!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

Hi, I like all your winter images , you really do get a lot of snow. I like the Happier photo the best, because the snowflakes that are being blown by the lady look really pretty.

The crazy part is, we actually didn’t get our “average” for snow. But we got it all in two months, instead of for the whole winter like normal.

Nice pics! I really enjoy the the shot of the bridge (although, I personally find the sign a little distracting, but what can ya do?!)

And though I feel bad for your nephew, I really like the shot of him. Lots of emotion and lots of slobber. It makes for a good story! :p

I’m excited for next month’s theme (and hopefully next month’s warmer weather!!)

I go back and forth with the sign in those shots. I had some without, but I’ve always like the sign in the shot for some reason. I can definitely see it both ways.

I like that shot of my nephew, too. But it still is tough at times. Lots of emotion for sure. He calmed down quickly after this.

      And here’s to warm weather!

I love how pretty the bridge and Courthouse Square pictures are! Snow scenes can be so beautiful. 🙂 And that poor little guy! 🙂

Snow scenes can indeed be beautiful… then we should be able to sweep them away!

Aw, poor little boy. I have two kids that did the same thing when they went out in the snow. They mostly have gotten over it, but are still the first ones to come in from playing.

While I do like the photo of the bridge in the fog, I would love to see that same scene in all seasons. It looks like a beautiful place!

Yeah, his mother gave the OK for the shot because it was his first true time in the snow. And with the new boots. So hopefully, as he grows, he learns to like it a little more!

I have done that bridge shot in many seasons in the past. It’s one of my favorite covered bridges because of how it is set in the landscape.

I couldn’t help but giggle at the picture of the little boy. He is so cute! I have 2 boys and that picture reminded me of when they were younger and would get a face full of snow when falling over. I brings back memories.

Hi PJ – It’s so great to see the participation slowly increasing this year. Looking forward to the start of year 3 of the photo blogging challenge and I’m going to try to do a better job of balancing the “photo” and the “blogging” parts of the challenge in my future posts.

I know you are ready for winter to leave for the rest of 2015, but I really think you made some terrific photographs this month. The images of Cameron really brought back memories from when our boys were much younger. Glad you decided to include them.

Looking forward to learning what next month’s theme is and I’ll check back next week to see how many more participants end up posting later today.

I agree in regard to participation. It’s nice to see more joining. I always thought 25 would be a perfect number if we got it each month. That way, we could build a community and have some friendships out of it. As for year 3… I’m still stunned that it’s gone on for this long and has done so quite well. I hope it continues for many more years, too. It’s been a lot of fun.

I am definitely ready for winter to leave, but I agree that it makes for some cool photos. I’m still trying to make sure I get a photo of Cameron up in almost every monthly challenge, though he’s not two yet… so I have to get creative with this month.

Thanks for being a part of the challenge and hope you continue with us!

Not having a need for covered bridges out here, I’m drawn to that shot as my favorite of the bunch, although the photo of your nephew is pretty good too.

I LOVE that you used the Cameron picture. I bet that one day he will be in the Olympics for a winter sport… they will put that photo on TV a million times!

The snow and fog!!!!! We had that and I had NEVER seen that before! I took several pictures but I had to keep them out of the challenge because I had way to many shots. But it was so beautiful. Your picture captures it perfectly!

If he is in the Winter Olympics one day and they want to use that photo, I’ll be a happy camper. That will mean I am somewhere at the Olympics watching him!

Snow and fog is cool when it’s around. It happens, of course, more over water areas, but definitely neat.

I laughed at your Godson’s reaction to the snow. I think that’s how I felt too by the time MA past 80 inches of snow. 🙂

That reaction to the snow was kind of funny, but hard at the same time! I was torn with using it or not. Looks like using it was OK to do! 😀

Wow – stellar photos! I especially like the crying child, actually. We hardly ever take pictures of our children when they’re crying, but it’s a part of life, is it not?

Anyway, my post is up and I’ve linked it. You may remember me as Jay of The Depp Effect, but I’ve dropped that one and started another blog. 🙂

It is definitely part of life. And this was his first trip into snow, so an important photo, I think. And the good thing is I have many, many more of him smiling and laughing.

And I do remember your blog. Welcome back to it all and hope to see you in future photo challenges, too! 😀

It’s really nice to see it grow, too. We had months where we didn’t have a lot of people. So it’s nice to see it grow. There are some great images out there, for sure. Hopefully we keep growing and having great submissions each month!

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.

The theme for Week 3 of the 52-week video challenge was "Show your process of making something." Alas, I didn't get the time to do what I wanted to do, so I attacked something I filmed over the summer that I kept putting off.
