A Day Zero Project goal of P.J.’s has been completed!
Goal completed: Complete a first aid or CPR course
Date completed: January 14, 2015
Description: I have always thought it would be wise to complete a CPR class.
Why I wanted to do it: The reality in today’s world is people should be well-rounded enough to react in certain situations. CPR and basic first aid is one of them. Crazy things can happen out there. You might need to react to an emergency and could be the only person in a situation, so knowing the basics and such could be an important difference. I am pretty active in different things, from softball to geocaching, to occasional disc golf outings, to other things outdoors. Therefore, it’s worth knowing. Truthfully, this is something most people should go through. It’s something people should have so they can, hopefully, react if the situation came around. That being said, I hope I never need to use this, but I am happy I now could use it if truly needed.
How I did it: A few years ago, I had seen a few geocaching events in Massachusetts where a person donated the time and such to teach a class. The size and all was limited, but geocachers could come and get certified. Unfortunately, in the two or three times the person ran the event, I couldn’t drive to it. I had thought about trying to host a geocaching event for this in my area (still on my mind as I have something I think is willing to donate the time … would just need to figure out the purchasing of books and all) so others could learn it as well. Then the opportunity came up for me to learn it through work. I truly believe anybody working in the educational setting should have the knowledge of CPR, AEDs and the such because if something happened in a school or at a school event, people need to react. So when this opportunity came up, I jumped at it. My boss thought it was a worthy thing as well and I was allowed to attend this several-hour class to do so. I’m happy I had the chance to do it and now will plan on renewing each time I need to do so.
About P.J.’s Day Zero Project: Day Zero is a project where people come up with 101 things to do over 1001 days. I started the project on August 1, 2014 with an anticipated finish date of April 28, 2017. Goals will not be revealed until they are completed. A private list is at the Day Zero website and the list will be made public upon completion of the project. It’s my thoughts that if things are kept private, should I not do them, change or find a way around it, I’d only be cheating myself.
