Geo-challenge details

OK, things are set.

We have a group of eight cachers who have decided they wanted to get waxed in this geo-challenge. So, I’ve accepted them all (I still have a couple of invites out there, so we might get a couple more if they respond).

First, besides myself, allow me to introduce the participants by linking their blogs:

Geocaching with Team Hick@heart

Gunny’s Cache
Geocaching Online
Northwoods Geocats
Geocache: I’m NOT obsessed… right?
Kiss my cache
Geocaching with EMC of Northridge, CA
Each of these people have accepted the challenge and hopefully there will be some playful (read: trash-talking) banter, comments, posts and such throughout the coming year about this challenge. Especially once things get released this week.

The challenge runs this Thursday, Oct. 16 through Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.

The total miles that the bug has traveled in that amount of time will be the winner. People don’t have to release the bug this Thursday, but they can if they want. Anytime after that is fine. Also, it can be released anywhere.

Now, here are the rules that were e-mailed to each:

1, The Travel Bug should be activated on the day that the race started. (If it has already been activated, then make sure there is NOTHING done with it until the date of the release).

2, The date to release will be October 16 (Thursday) to release.

3, The Travel Bug MUST have the name “HooHaa TB Race” in it somewhere. For example, if you have a bug called CanHandle’s Pork Rind, you should add the TB race to it somewhere – ie: HooHaaTBrace-CanHandle’s Pork Rind. That way, we are all on the same page. Also, PLEASE put a photo (without showing the numbers) of the bug and what you’ve attached to it.

(There will also eventually be a page on my site with all the bugs).
4, You can’t keep your TB and move it from cache to cache. That takes the fun and the risk out of this race. I will allow a TOTAL of two moves for you – but the bug must have been stagnant and not moved for a while before you touch it again. Also, please don’t have someone you know just travel and dip it. In fact, the passage will note that people shouldn’t hold and dip the TB in their travels. This is a race, not one individual moving it from cache to cache. That just wouldn’t be as fun. (I am also going to note in the passage that the bug shouldn’t be placed in an extreme or rarely visited cache as this is a race)

5, IF you happen to come across another racer’s bug in a cache, for fair sportsmanship, you MUST pick up the bug and move it within a week. I think that makes things more fun and fair. Also, you can’t drop the bug in an extreme or in-the-middle-of-nowhere cache to stall it.

The race will be open and ready to fly this week. Hopefully everyone will be able to place their bugs somewhere on that day (I’m going to try for sure to get out somewhere to drop mine off).

Should be fun.

I’ve asked each person to send me some information and such, so later this week, I’ll be “introducing” each competitor and hopefully be able to show their bug etc.

More later!

Darn. I run a geocaching blog and I just now heard about this race. I wish I had caught this one a bit sooner so that I could try to enter. Any chance you might like another participant in your race?
