The HooHaa TB Race 2 is in the books!
Feb 20
And what a race it was.
First, my apologies for having this up a bit later than expected. However, if you’ll look at the post from last week, you’ll understand that my mind hasn’t been on putting this post up. I did figure everything after the 8th, so it’s all set.
Let’s discuss the race and lead up to the winners and such.
The race
I have to admit, I was rather disappointed, overall. Not with the entrants and not with the TBs, but with the race itself. We had 20 participants this year and have a good prize pack for people. (I need to break it all up, still).
Seven of the TBs didn’t even make it 1,000 miles.
Several haven’t moved or have been marked missing for many months. I’ll attack this whole thing in an upcoming blog post. But I’ll say I’m disappointed. My TB in the race hasn’t moved since July.
July.
Others have TBs that have been stagnant even longer.
The lucky ones have had their TBs move a bunch or at least had some major jumps for mileage. No TB rached the 10,000-mile mark, but the winner traveled more than 9,000 miles.
The results
The winner this year is searchjaunt’s “The Crooked Key.” The more impressive thing about this victory is that he also won the fourth quarter prize as his TB went more than 4,600 miles during the final three months to leapfrog reigning champion Trip, whose “Winner by Force” did something I have never seen a TB do — lose miles.
Seriously.
Trip’s TB had 7337.9 miles at the end of the third quarter. He ends the race with 7333. That’s a difference of negative 4.9 miles.
Trip did hold on to second place, however, as the fast-charging Hawaii Bound and You’ve Got Mail couldn’t make up enough ground to pull into the top two spots.
It was impressive quarter for the new champion. Its 4600.6 miles were the third-highest quarter jump during this year-long race. Trip’s TB had the highest, during the second quarter, with 5575.2. Bhouston21′s Trolling For Caches had the second-highest when he won the first quarter with 5420.4 miles. The troll rounded out the top five overall with 5919.1 miles.
The full results of everybody’s TBs are below.
Other prizes
Remember, we had other categories this year.
The first was for the most photos. I didn’t count photos that were taken by the person before the race or for their page. The photos had to come from someone else and had to have been uploaded when I checked on Feb. 9.
The one wasn’t even close as Erika’s TB, Ally Gator, had nine photos.
Then there was the most states/countries. Hawaii Bound took that one with 10! You’ve Got Mail had nine in second place and two others, Save the Whales and Winner by Force each had seven.
As for the fewest miles…
That unfortunate award goes to the Traveling Scribbler. N9YBK’s TB went a whopping 99.5 miles before it apparently disappeared at some point after being placed in a cache in the Capital Region in April.
Finally, the prize for the most discoveries was won by Hawaii Bound with five.
I will have the prize breakups in an upcoming blog post (I am breaking them up and going to do a few photos). Remember, however, it was set up so people can’t win multiple categories, so take that into account.
From the rules:
I also reserve the right to break up the prize category winners so the same person doesn’t win every single prize. For example, if the overall winner wins all the smaller categories, I will go with the second, third place etc. I just don’t think it’s fair if one person wins everything. It’s not the point of all of this. Also, people can only win one of the secondary categories. Lets keep it fun, people.
HooHaa TB Race 3?
As much as I’d like to run another race, I’m not sure. I first want to see how many people would be interested in participating again. One thing I like about this race is that it is smaller. That makes it a little more fun an interesting to me.
However, the fact that so many TBs seemed to disappear was disheartening. Also, that some people dipped the TBs a little too much also stunk. None of this is because of the owners, that’s for sure. But, the rules are hard to enforce. Two TBs had serious dipping. Because it didn’t have any determination of the final outcome, I didn’t deduct miles. I did put an asterisk next to the two TBs in the final list, however, just so people could see.
Hopefully, all of the people in the race will come check out the blog and see the final results. If you do, please comment here if you’d be interested in a third round of the race. If so, I’ll start working on some other ideas and such to try and make it even better.
Once the prize post comes out (in a few days), I’ll need those who win prizes to get me an address, so I can send the winning items to them.
Good job by everyone!

More later!

Well, at least I didn’t come in last!! Even though I stated my TB didn’t like events – it went missing at one. >:-(
Yey for the most pictures! lol
More and more caches I find that should have travel bugs seem to be empty. On weekend I went to 12 caches that should have had 27 tbs/coins. I found none. I’m actually surprised that more did not go missing.
Happy to see I’ve won the race, which is a surprise since it stuck somewhere for about 4 months. Also looking at my other TBs, I don’t seem to have much luck with them
I’m considering competing a next time in this race thought.
I would be interested in your next race. I’m sure the rest of my family would enter as well – there’s 5 confirmed entries for you.
So when do prizes go out??
Some things pushed this to the back and I realized the other day that I hadn’t done this. I have most of it split and will be doing a blog post sometime within the next week with everything. Then I’ll need addresses etc. I just have to make sure people aren’t repeating with prizes etc.
