Wednesday fun

I had originally had Thursday off, but that got switched because of an event at the Hall of Fame on Thursday, which I ended up covering.

That gave me Wednesday off.

That also gave me the chance to catch up with Beth and Brent for a day of caching in the Albany area. Alas, this will be a post without photos because I did not cart my camera with me, unfortunately. There were some good photo ops, too, which is disappointing.

I will, however, be posting my Saturday adventures in the next day or so and that one will be filled with some photos and everything as I got a bunch of shots.

Anyway, the day started early and we met Beth as a park-and-ride in the Cobleskill area. We piled into her car and headed out.

We grabbed a few on the way up — including one on this interesting metal dinasaur at an auto-repair shop. Pretty cool stuff. We hit a couple of others before reaching the Albany area. Once in Albany, we hit up a cache at a mall — has to be a micro, right? Uh, nope! Hike over a small hill and down an embankment for a smaller container. This had been DNF’d a bunch recently, but Brent ended up finding, which gave us a good find.

A really sweet part of the day turned out to be a nano at another mall — and after that, I talked my way into visiting Barnes and Noble. Sweet. I love this store. Though I’ll order books online through Amazon, I love going to and buying stuff at a B&N. Nothing like it. Ended up getting a true-crime book called “A Beautiful Child.” Haven’t finished it yet, but it’s been a really good read so far, especially if you are into those kinds of books.

Off we went from there.

We ended up at a really nice park in the town of Colonie. I didn’t know this park even existed, but it’s a great spot. I could see spending a lot of time here to read, sit, walk or ride a bike if I lived in the area. We ended up finding five caches there, which was cool. A couple of multis, too, which brought us back-and-forth all over the park as we found others. The toughest was likely “Tim’s 10th B’Day,” which took us all over the park in a four-stage multi. It was a nice one to get done, however.

From there, we found a couple of more in the same area, went and found something for a quick lunch and grabbed a few more caches before heading home.

The funniest one of the day might have been “Do not find this cache – Number Ho, New York.” The premise of this cache is that if you find it, you are some sort of a number ho, doing caches for the numbers. Of course, Beth said we had to do it! Good times though.

Our final one landed us at an ice cream place. Though I wasn’t in an ice cream mood, I did get a nice, fresh bottle of cold weather.

Good times though. Another good day of caching. As the fall approaches, I can see where caches will be coming fewer and fewer. Though I’ll no doubt keep looking and going at it through the fall and winter, I know things will cut back just a bit!

Hides and Finds

Earlier this week, I placed my eighth hide. My eventual goal is to have 10 active caches that I’ve hidden. I think that’s a good amount for me to be able to maintain. I think I have some good ones. This one is a cache I’ve been thinking about and finally placed it the other night. It’s not the toughest one in the world, but people will have to use their heads to find it. I hope people make a bunch of finds on this one. Now that college is back in session, I’m hoping there’s a bunch of new cachers in the area looking to find our hides!

As of this writing, I’m sitting inside on a beautiful Sunday with the day off. Alas, I couldn’t find anyone to go caching (well, I could have if I had opted to go to a baseball game, but didn’t want to get back in town at 10 or 11 tonight). I’m still holding out hope I can find someone to go for a few hours in the early evening, but I doubt it. If not, that’s a shame. I just didn’t feel like having to travel like an hour to cache solo today. I’m off Tuesday, so maybe I can find someone to go that day, but I’m doubting that, too. We’ll see what happens.

I’ll have a report on Saturday’s caching adventures in the next day or two!

More later!
