A family/photo project

A while back, I called on family to hopefully send me a lot of images for a photo project I wanted to take on. I wanted to create a book of images from my family — and now I think I want to go with both sides. It’s great now where you can create photo books on demand and others can buy them, so it will be nice that family members can purchase the book to have it as well.

Now that my desktop is back up and I have a new monitor, I started finally digging in to the project tonight by starting to scan.

I don’t have the best scanner in the world, but we’re going to see how this all works out. To be honest, I’m not sure what I can or have to do with images after they are scanned to make them look like they are crisp digital prints. And for many, I don’t want to as I think it would take away the “feel” of the image. Let’s face it, photos taken 20, 30, 40, 50+ years ago shouldn’t look like a high-priced camera took them.

That being said, if anyone out there knows a couple of tweaks I can do to a photo to make them pop a bit more, please let me know so I can do that. Some of these photos just are low quality, but that’s what makes them great.

Some just need to be left alone, however.

For example, how about this photo of my parents from many years ago:

Not for nothing, but I don’t think I’d want to do much to this image, as long as it will reproduce well enough in the book I’ll create. As long as that happens, I’ll be happy.

I have a lot of images to scan and go through. I’m hoping more family members will still be planning on sending me more so I can keep scanning. I created a family photo blog that I’ll be putting images up on as well, so hopefully the family can enjoy and see a lot of these older (and newer) photos.

Be back tomorrow with an update on the geochallenge, considering it starts this week. A couple more suckers have entered the race.

More later!
