Whew!
It was hot and humid Saturday.
With the threat of rain and thunderstorms all day, it was muggy. I covered a softball game in the morning and when the team I covered lost the first one and were done, I had the chance to be able to take my time coming home and grab a few caches. The goal was 10 and I got 11 (I had made a list of 21, but skipped a bunch as it was so hot!)
Getting out of the air conditioned car, at times, was almost painful. That’s how humid it was. I stopped at one spot for a waterfall lookout and going from the top of the steps to the bottom (maybe 20 feet?) you could feel the difference in the humidity. It was nuts!
I grabbed a park-and-grab on the way to the tournament in the morning (shockingly enough, I was ahead of schedule) as my first. After the game, I grabbed one at a cool lock and then had a couple of virtual finds.
I did have two DNFs on the day and one I didn’t search for because when I arrived at the spot, someone was parked about 15 feet from the cache location and there were a ton of people around. I did get a nice photo at the area though:

Most of the grabs were pretty much of the park-and-grab variety, but being so hot, I wasn’t complaining.
It was also the monthly 12 of 12, with geocaching as a theme. So I did a “scenes from geocaching” tweak on the theme. You can see my 12 of 12 on Flickr.
The final find of the day is an interesting story. Without giving it all away, I want to tell what happened.
There’s a very hard puzzle cache in the area I was going through. I’ve been working on this puzzle for weeks. I’ve made some ground, but still confused. Anyway, I knew that a cache had been moved to help make room for the final one of this puzzle. So using some detective skills, I figured out where the final *might* be. It all made sense.
Anyway, as I was driving home, I went by said spot. Something caught my eye. I thought “no way…”
The final, after all, isn’t supposed to be too hard to get to.
As I turned around, I saw two other things and thought I might just be thinking too much. But, I followed my gut instinct and went back. I looked at one spot and low and behold, an ammo can. No way.
Opened it up and there it was in all its glory. Signed in, grabbed a couple of TBs that want to roam the world (how’s Ireland sound?) and ended the day with a cool cache.
Turns out that something from my dad’s 21 years as a cop came to me, eh? Old fashioned detective work and leading into observation and instinct!
So that brings me to 1,955 finds. I want to get to about 1,990-1,995 before I leave for Ireland on June 29. I believe I’ll have at least one day where I can go for a number run, so I should be able to pull it off.
I might try and get a head start on it this Tuesday as I have the day off. I want to head out around noon-12:30 and just grab a bunch in the area that I don’t have. Then I can still get to O-Town for my softball game that night around 5:30 p.m. If I plan well enough, I think I might be able to get between 8-10 caches and push myself even closer to the final goal.
Then, getting Europe’s First as my 2,000th find is still in the plans.
More later!
